We Belong to the Church Universal
By being orthodox in our confession and beliefs, we identify with all Jesus-loving congregations who sojourn under the Cross and who are taught by the Word.
We are organically connected to our Head in Heaven, Christ our Lord, and by that, we belong with all those who march under the Banner of Jesus.
We Belong to the Southern Baptist Convention
Eastside Church of the Cross is a member church of the Southern Baptist Convention, having some affinities with the Founders group within the SBC.
We do not relish or delight in schism or denominationalism; we find it good to work with other churches for the following purposes:
· Promoting Jesus
· Missions
· Seminaries
· Ordination/Ministerial Credentials
· Cooperation
· Fellowship
About Denominationalism:
Belonging to a denomination has been useful to us in multiple ways, but it is not something we hold too tightly — for we are always aware that the traditions of men can replace true heavenly affections. Additionally, belonging to one group is not to despise all others. We love all Christ-honoring churches — and there are many such churches in our area that we work with.
We work with other Churches and Christian Groups throughout our Region:
We experience ad hoc relations with other churches for the purpose of such things as Christian education and food pantries. For example:
· We have worked with First Baptist Church in Stillwell, Kansas for the distribution of food to the hungry.
· Our pastor presents his archaeological research to various churches or religious groups throughout the area — the last series was held at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in southern Johnson County.
· We have Geneva Academy as a way to minister to Christian families throughout our area. We are limited on how many students we can accept into the school, but for those in the school, all tuition is free. We serve other Jesus-loving churches by providing a free elementary and secondary education.
Other Churches in Louisburg:
We have had the chance to partner with various denominations within Louisburg and within the larger Kansas City area to seek our common goal of Glorifying God.
Starting in 2008, we began a public dialog with Wea Catholic Church. Without compromising any of our doctrines or beliefs, Eastside Church of the Cross engaged various Catholic scholars and representatives. This was an effort to understand the different approaches to reading Scripture.
We also belong to and support the Louisburg Ministerial Alliance. This alliance consists of most of the churches in Louisburg, and with them we share in the following:
· Conducting worship services in nursing homes
· The National Day of Prayer
· The general enjoyment of mutual edification of fellowship among congregations.
We believe the Bible is true and without error. We believe that glorifying God the Father through Jesus by His Spirit is our chief end. Working with other ministries, churches and denominations is limited to these parameters. We work with others who have the same Christian vision. To that end, we are not ecumenical for the sake of being ecumenical, but we always seek to advance the glory of Christ. There are many other Christians from various churches who share in a passion for Jesus and his Salvation, and we delight to cooperate with those fellow sojourners.
