We Belong... |
|
We Belong to the Church Universal By being orthodox in our confession and beliefs, we identify with all Jesus-loving congregations who sojourn under the Cross and who are taught by the Word.
We are organically connected to our Head in Heaven, Christ our Lord, and by that, we belong one to those who march under the Banner of Jesus.
We Belong to the Southern Baptists Convention Eastside Church of the Cross is a member church of the Southern Baptist Convention, even having some affinities for the Founders group within the SBC.
We do not relish or delight in schism or denominationalism, even as we find that it is good for us to yet work with other churches for the following purposes:
· Missions · Seminaries · Ordination/Ministerial Credentials · Cooperation · Fellowship
More about Denominationalism
Belonging to a denomination has been useful to us in multiple ways, but it is not something we hold tightly for we are always aware that the traditions of man can replace true heavenly affections. Belonging to one group is not to despise all others. We love all Christ-honoring churches and there are many such churches in our area that we work with.
We work with other Churches throughout our Region We also experience ad hoc relations with other churches for the purpose of such things as Christian education and food pantries. For example:
· We work with First Baptist Church in Stillwell, Kansas, in their association with Harvesters and Stillwell Caring Ministry.
· Our pastor presents his archaeological research to various churches or religious groups throughout the area the last series was held at Redeemer Presbyterian in southern Johnson County.
Other Churches in Louisburg: We have had the chance to partner with various denominations within Louisburg and within the larger Kansas City area to seek our common goal of Glorifying God.
In July and August of 2008, we are co-sponsoring a dialog with Wea Catholic Church where the pastor of Eastside Church of the Cross will be sharing the stage with various Catholic scholars and representatives. This is an effort to understand the different approaches to reading Scripture between Catholics and a non-Catholic.
We also belong to and support the Louisburg Ministerial Alliance. This alliance consists of most of the churches in Louisburg, and with them we share in the following:
· Conducting worship services in nursing homes · The National Day of Prayer · Giving aid and money to help the poor · The sharing of an annual worship service · The general enjoyment of mutual edification of fellowship among congregations.
