Pastor Steve Rives
Steve is the pastor of Eastside Church of the Cross. He comes to the subject of divorce and remarriage with the heart of a pastor, and the tools of the academy. He is working on his PhD in Biblical Studies, Old Testament, with a desire to use the ancient Near Eastern context as an aid to reading the Old Testament. Likewise, the culture of the Roman world and Judaism in the time of Christ are studied with an eye to the Biblical writings.
Steve uses the Dead Sea Scrolls, the writings of Judaism under Roman domination, Canaanite and Egyptian literature from the time of Moses, and archaeological findings from the time of the prophets to examine the teaching of the New Testament on divorce. He has a masters degree in Biblical Archaeology and has studied in Israel where he worked on archaeological digs.
